Abstract: Reference map generation is a key to the radar scene matching guidance. The selection of generation methods determines the overall performance of a radar scene matching guidance system greatly. This paper presents an overview of the progress made in the field of the reference map generation technique for radar scene matching guidance, analyses the existing problem, and prospects for the developing trends. The reference map is generated by two main techniques at present: one is characteristic simulation, and the other is signal simulation. But neither satisfies the requirement of the radar scene matching guidance completely. In particular guidance applications, each works with its advantages and disadvantages. At present the main issues of the reference map generation for radar scene matching are discovering more reference sources, improving distinguishing ability, and generating the homing target templates effectively.
