Abstract:

Doppler beam sharpening (DBS) is an important technology for aircraft to implement terrain following or terrain avoidance. Aiming at the radio frequency (RF) stealth requirement of the altimeter in the aircraft working under the DBS mode, this paper uses frequency diversity array (FDA) to study the DBS altimeter based on RF stealth. Firstly, the influence of the frequency increment dependence characteristic and distance periodicity of the FDA on the DBS mode is analyzed, by studying the characteristics of the FDA radiation pattern. Based on this, the constraint conditions for the DBS altimeter are given, including the frequency increment between FDA array elements, pulse repetition frequency, pulse width and so on. Meanwhile, the RF stealth model of the FDA-DBS altimeter is established. Simulation shows that the DBS altimeter based on FDA has the best RF stealth performance, compared to phased arrays and multiple input multiple output arrays.
