Abstract: To overcome the deficiency in solving aim point configuration for area shoot of naval gun to target with irregular distribution, the aim point configuration method for area shoot of naval gun to surface target with arbitrary distribution is presented. By describing target probability distribution function (PDF) in discrete space, the target PDF is directly express in a numerical form, avoiding the complexity increasement with multiple updating and〖JP〗 changing processes on target PDF in analytical formula form. Based on variational method, the numerical optimal valid region and optimal intermediate function are deduced. The initial aim point configuration is conducted with the optimal valid region. Furthermore, the aim point configuration is optimized through the optimal intermediate function with the conjugate gradient method. The simulation analysis is conducted under the following settings. The aim point configurations are solved with the existing method and the proposed method, and the aim point configuration is solved with the proposed method for target with irregular PDF and the kill probability comparison is conducted with MonteCarlo method. The results suggest that, the kill probability of the proposed method corresponds to the existing method’s for target with regular PDF. Meanwhile, this method can solve aim point configuration for target with irregular PDF with kill probability approximating the theoretical optimality.
