Abstract: Based on the trialism of science, technology and engineering, the category and the thinking way of system engineering is introspected. The necessity and feasibility of establishing results-oriented system engineering(ROSE),which belongs to the engineering category,is proposed. The new being which is created by ROSE exists in the form of systems, and the process takes the form of elements-integrating and whole-emerging.Its four principles, the results-oriented principle, the lean-system principle, the integration principle and the practicality principle, are described. Moreover, the logic process of ROSE,whose activity elements are classified into two levels about system cognition and system practice, are discussed in details. Finally,an empirical analysis on ROSE is presented.
