Abstract:

Aiming at the carrier synchronization system with limited pilot frequency under Rician channel, the generalization and optimization design of the corresponding data frame format is studied, so as to improve the carrier synchronization ability significantly. Firstly, a generalized PSAM (G-PSAM) format is designed based on the standard pilot-symbol-assisted-modulation (S-PSAM) format, whose corresponding joint data-aided & non-data-aided Cramer-Rao bound (DA&NDA CRB) are derived and approximated. Then, an efficient solution to optimize the G-PSAM format is provided by means of the approximate DA&NDA CRB and the common control-variate method (CVM), resulting in a class of optimized G-PSAM (OG-PSAM) format and meanwhile comparing with the S-PSAM format. Simulation results show that the OG-PSAM format exhibits superior DA&NDA CRB performance to the S-PSAM format under the different pilot blocks for both the short-packet and long-packet transmissions.

Key words: wireless communications, optimized generalized pilot-symbol-assisted-modulation (PSAM) format, control-variate method, Cramer-Rao bound, Rician channel
