Abstract:

To address the difficulty in obtaining measured data from airborne dual-polarization phased array weather radar, a simulation method for meteorological target echoes of airborne dual-polarization phased array weather radar is proposed. Firstly, meteorological scene information is simulated and obtained using the weather research and forecasting (WRF) model. Next, the polarization characteristics of the polarization phased array dipole elements and the scattering characteristics of precipitation targets are analyzed. These aspects are combined to calculate the electric field polarization properties of the dipole array elements during the transmission and reception process and the scattering process of precipitation targets, then the dipole polarization scattering matrix of meteorological targets is obtained. Finally, integrating meteorological scene information and the dipole polarization scattering matrix, the radar meteorological equation is applied to obtain the echo signal of the phased array reference element, then the meteorological target echo signal for the entire elements of dual-polarization phased array radar is obtained. A comparison of the simulation results with actual measurements data validates the reliability of the proposed method.
