Abstract:

As the communication frequency band gradually expands, it becomes greatly difficult to design a joint carrier and direction of arrival estimator under the Nyquist-sense array inter-element spacing and sampling rate. To overcome this problem, a spatial-temporal sub-sampling architecture characterized with an L-shaped unfolded co-prime array is proposed. Further, an analytical estimator is developed via combining pseudo noise subspace construction and correlation based source pairing. Owning to sparse arrays and temporal sub-sampling, the proposed scheme not only enlarges the array aperture but also lowers the sampling cost. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed estimator can achieve high accuracy only consuming a small number of snapshots and moderate signal to noise ratio conditions.

Key words: joint carrier frequency and direction of arrival (DOA) estimation, unfolded co-prime array, L-shaped array, spatial-temporal sub-sampling
