Abstract:

When the matched filter is applied to the pulse compression for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging, the ringing effect appears around the strong edges in the SAR image owing to its strong sidelobes, which degrades image quality and affects target information extraction. Canny criteria were originally developed for detecting edges in images, in particularly, for distinguishing two adjacent edges in images. The Canny criteria are extended to the complex domain and a new cost function is presented to design the refined matched filter for SAR imaging. The refined matched filter can reduce the ringing effect around the edges in SAR images. Experimental results verify the validity of the refined matched filter.
