Abstract: The airborne early warning radar often faces some disturbances such as ground target plots and track when it detects air targets. The filtering of ground targets, which can improve target track quality effectively, is an important part of track optimization of airborne early warning radar. Aiming at ground target filtering, a method of ground and air target recognition based on Doppler feature is studied. First, on the basis of modeling and simulating traffic flow, the Doppler feature of freeway target echoes in the presence of ground clutter is analyzed, and then a rule of target classification based on differences of Doppler feature between ground targets and air targets is designed. The simulation results show that classification rule assures high re-cognition probability of ground targets while assuring high recognition probability of air targets, which accordingly filters most of the ground freeway targets effectively.
