Abstract:

Generalized space and frequency index modulation (GSFIM) shows better performance compared with traditional multiple input multiple output-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM). However, GSFIM has a complex system structure and a detector of high computational complexity. We research a peculiar space and frequency index modulation system, i.e. Spatial modulation (SM) based on frequency and quadrature amplitude modulation (FQAM)/frequency and phase shift keying (FPSK),which greatly simplifies the system structure. In order to improve the spectral efficiency of the system, we propose FQAM/FPSK-SM combining non-orthogonal subcarrier. Simulation results show that under the different parameter configurations, the proposed scheme not only enhances the spectral efficiency, but also achieves the nearly same performance as FQAM/FPSK-SM with the same transmit rate and improves throughput of unit bandwidth by adjusting the compression coefficient.
