原始数据压缩对全极化SAR极化信息的影响

合成孔径雷达(synthetic aperture radar,SAR)原始数据压缩能有效降低星上下传数据率,但同时也引入压缩误差,对全极化SAR而言将造成极化信息的失真。利用仿真数据,在不同信杂比下,研究当前普遍使用的4 bit量化、8∶3分块自适应量化(block adaptive quantization,BAQ)和8∶4 BAQ 3种压缩方法引入的极化失真。仿真结果表明,数据压缩对图像残余通道不平衡的影响较小,一定条件下可忽略,对图像残余串扰的影响,只有在信杂比远高于40dB的条件下才表现出来,其他情况下将淹没于背景杂波中,这为全极化SAR数据压缩方法的选择提供了参考。

Abstract:

Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) raw data compression can reduce onboard downlink data rate effectively. However, the compression induces distortions on polarimetric information of quad polarimetric SAR data. Three widely used raw data compression methods including 4 bit quantization, 8∶3 block adaptive quantization (BAQ) and 8∶4 BAQ are evaluated through simulated quad polarimetric data under different signal-to-clutter ratio (SCR) conditions. Simulation results show that the influence of the data compression on residual channel imbalance is small and can be ignored under a certain condition. Besides, the impact of the data compression on residual crosstalk shows up only on condition that the SCR is much higher than 40 dB, while in other circumstances it is submerged in the impact of the background clutter. These results provide valuable information for selecting the proper data compression method of quad polarimetric SAR systems.
