Abstract:

To solve the problem that ionospheric clutter interferes with the radar’s ability to monitor and detect targets accurately, a statistical analysis of large-scale ionospheric irregular structure echoes using original observation data is presented from a low-latitude ionosonde and field-aligned coherent scattering radar. Based on the results of the analysis, an ionospheric clutter model tailored for OTHR applications is proposed. The model’s results are then verified by using measured data. The findings of the research can support improved target detection and signal processing for OTHR systems.
