Abstract:

The problem of two dimensional (2D) direction of arrival (DOA) estimation for multiple input multiple out (MIMO) radar is studied, and a subspace based DOA estimation algorithm using nested parallel array is proposed. Large degrees of freedom (DOF) can be achieved by adopting two parallel uniform linear arrays (TPULA) with nested relationships as the transmitter and the receiver, respectively. For the DOA estimation, data reconstruction is used to increase virtual pulse number and unitary transformation is applied to reduce the complexity. Thereafter, the signal subspace and noise subspace of the data are combined to obtain the closed-solutions of 2D DOA estimation with automatically pairing. The proposed algorithm has low complexity, and it can achieve better DOA estimation performance and deal with coherent targets compared to conventional -TPULA- based methods in MIMO radar. Simulations verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
