Abstract:

Direction of arrival (DOA) estimation of the uniform linear array (ULA) is studied. A new method based on independent component analysis (ICA) and least square (LS) is proposed. Making use of  imaginary- part of the antenna array factor, a new model for received signals is built. Application feasibility of ICA is analyzed, and then the problem for obtaining amplitudes of original signals is converted to an LS problem to be solved. Steps of the new method are drawn, the angle equation for DOA estimation is displayed by mathematic theory, and requirement for antenna array cell internal is given. To improve the precision,it could be realized by crude estimation is updated to refined estimation. Simulation results show the new method has better performance in low signal noise ratio, higher degree distinguishing capacity and shorter data length, which provides a new means for DOA estimation.
