Abstract:

A novel improved method based on multiobjective optimization is put forward for retrieving low altitude atmospheric refractivity profiles. A twoparameter two-linear model, a kind of surface-based duct model, is used as an atmospheric refractivity profiles model. The characteristics of the objective function used in atmospheric ducts retrieval are analyzed under different electromagnetic wave frequencies. The results show that the objective function has multiple local extremum, and the characteristics are obviously different for different frequencies. Let the received radar sea clutter be from C-band and X-band (6 GHz and 10 GHz) simultaneously, an NSGAⅡ algorithm is introduced to retrieve atmospheric refractivity profiles. The retrieved results using NSGAⅡ algorithm are compared with those from genetic algorithm (GA) to further analyze the performances of the novel improved method. The results indicate that the method based on multi-objective optimization can provide higher precision and better stability of low altitude atmospheric refractivity profiles than those based on singleobjective optimization.
