Abstract:

Cognitive radar can detect the target of interest by perceiving the operation environment. The cognitive radar detection problem of the fluctuated target embedded in the clutter and noise is studied. With the feedback linked to the transmitter from the receiver, the closed loop connected with the radar system and the environment is formed. The target parameters can be estimated with the expectation maximization algorithm. Utilizing the feedback information from the receiver, the transmitted waveform for the next cycle is designed based on the signal to clutter and noise ratio maximization criterion. The computer simulation results indicate that the utilization of the closed loop for the cognitive radar can improve the efficiency of radar environment information acquisition. As a result, the cognitive radar has a better detection performance, compared with the traditional radar.
