Abstract:

P-band synthetic aperture radar(SAR) has superiority for its strong abi1ity to survei1 the hidden targets in both mi1itary and civi1 app1ications. Observating space objects existing in or above the ionosphere with P-band ground-based radar, the phase of the echo will be changed randomly due to ionosphere. This paper analyzes the background ionospheric effects on ISAR with modeling and simulation, and gives the qualitative and quantitative analysis based on the spatio-temporal variability of ionosphere. An estimating method is proposed for acquiring the characteristic of ionospheric using the shift and correlation (SAC) method. With the obtained-ionosphere-parameters, the degradation of image quality caused by the ionosphere is corrected. The simulation and the real data results confirm the validity of the approach.
