Abstract:

The distribution of permittivity of the airborne radome material is usually not uniform because of the sophisticated manufacturing process, which leads to degradation of the electrical performance of antenna-radome systems. Such degradation could be ameliorated by modifying the geometric thickness of the radome through grinding. An inverse method based on far field for determining material removal amount is presented. Firstly, the inversion model for determining the transmission coefficient is established according to the far field formula. Then the distribution of permittivity is obtained based on the transmission coefficient as well as the shape and thickness of the radome. Finally, a refining method of the integrating meshes of near field that does not increase the radome meshes is proposed to improve the precision of the inversion model. Simulation results of some 1.2 m oval radome verify the correctness and effectiveness of the method.
