Abstract:

The modelling of angular estimation methods for unresolvable targets is mostly based on Swerling Ⅱ type targets. In this case, however, frequency agility is usually used to ensure that the amplitudes of the targets for pulse-to-pulse are irrelevant. Considering that the target echoes observed by non-frequency agility radarsare slowly fluctuant, the influence of targets’radar cross section (RCS) fluctuation on the direction finding of monopulse radars is investigated and an angular resolution approach for two slow-fluctuation unresolvable targets based on statistical characteristics of monopulse angular estimation is provided. Monte Carlo simulations confirm the validity of the proposed approach.
