Abstract:

In the wireless network architecture, mobility management consisted of location management and paging process, is an essential technique for providing users with network services. Currently, the exit tracking area list deployment solutions in location management have not taken into actual mobility of account, causing severely signaling waste of location management in the network architecture. This paper proposes a two dimensional random-walk model based on the user's traffic characteristics, and analyzes the total signaling consumption of mobility management using the conventional Markov chain scheme and the modified Markov chain scheme with absorption states in order to find the optimal tracking area list configuration. The rationality of the model is verified through Monte Carlo tests, and the results show that the proposed method has reduced signaling cost significantly, which is significant for reducing signaling cost.

Key words: mobility management, tracking area list, two dimensional random-walk, modified Markov
