The ever-growing demand for sophisticated information acquisition and transmission in complex marine environments is driving a paradigm shift in underwater systems, evolving from traditional isolated architectures toward intelligent, integrated, and networked frameworks. This special column addresses pivotal technical challenges in this domain, including but not limited to the integration of target detection and communication, underwater acoustic communication and counter-reconnaissance, multi-platform collaborative sensing, network security, and intelligent signal processing. To meet these challenges, there is an urgent need to develop systematic theories and methodologies tailored for complex operational scenarios. The Journal of Systems Engineering and Electronics is pleased to announce this special column dedicated to "Underwater Intelligent Sensing and Communication Technologies," with the goal of highlighting recent advances and system implementation pathways. This initiative seeks to foster the deep integration of sensing, communication, and intelligence, thereby bolstering the capability enhancement and engineering applications of marine information systems and underwater equipment architectures.
