Abstract:

An approach is proposed for designing post-stall  maneuvering flight controllers using B-spline approximation and dynamic surface control method. An on-line parameter update law that makes use of B-spline networks is used to approximate the aerodynamic force and moment coefficients. The B-spline networks raise the weight updating speed and improve the performance of transient processes. The problem of explosion of terms in traditional Backstepping design, which is caused by repeated differentiations of certain nonlinear functions such as virtual control, is eliminated by dynamic surface control method. All signals in the close loop are guaranteed to be semi-globally uniformly ultimately bounded and the output tracking error is proved to converge to a small neighborhood around zero by appropriately choosing design parameters. Simulation results for post-stall maneuvering flight demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
