Abstract:

As the multiple input multiple output (MIMO) radar has a large virtual aperture in spatial domain. Therefore, the conventional reduced rank space time adaptive processing(STAP)method,  e.g., the m-Capon method, is not practicable due to its large degree of freedom (DOF). The sub array domain m-Capon method is addressed. Computer simulation results show that the sub array domain  3-Capon method has better performance compared with its counter part, the phased array radar, with the same processor DOF. However, it has insufficient robustness to the array error in side lobe clutter section. The sub array domain 1-Capon method has obviously better performance compared with the phased array radar in sidelobe clutter section. While its’ main clutter null is too wide. In real applications, these two methods could be alternatively used in the main and sidelobe clutter sections, which can provide the solid theory for the engineering realization.
