Abstract:

The clutters caused by the backscatter of the wind farm in the radar beam coverage area have the similar characteristics to some of the weather echoes, which may affect the robustness of the weather parameters estimation, and intensively lead to the erroneous detection and misidentification of the weather radar. Based on the Level-II data of the weather radar, the wind turbine clutter suppression is realized by the maximum a posteriori probability (MAP) method. Based on the traditional MAP algorithm, considering the influence of the location of weather radar and wind farm, terrain and other factors on the radar beam, the above priori informations can be used to select the effective high-elevation radar scan data, by which the wind farm clutter suppression performance can be improved. In addition, as the radial velocity obtained by the high scan area and the corresponding low scan changes greatly, and the performance of the MAP clutter suppression algorithm may be affected. The radial velocity of the non-polluted weather target is used to modify estimated value obtained by the traditional MAP suppression for the reason of the uniformity of the weather target parameters with the range. In order to quantitatively evaluate the performance of the suppression algorithm, the corresponding performance index is given in this paper, and the proposed algorithm is verified by using the Level-II data obtained by different volume cover pattern (VCP) modes.
