Joint bias estimation method for multi-station time synchronization system based on ADS-B

Abstract:

Considering the effects of automatic dependent surveillancebroadcast (ADS-B) position errors, station position surveillance errors and time difference of arrival measurement errors on the multistation time synchronization system based on ADS-B, a mathematical time synchronization model with bias is built. The computing method of the theory synchronization error is given, and the ADS-B latency which may cause the distinct synchronization error is pointed out. A joint estimation algorithm of the ADS-B latency and station clock correction is proposed, and the theoretical derivation of the CramerRao lower bound (CRLB) is derived. The relation between the synchronization error and the aircraft heading before and after the bias cancellation is also analyzed via the geometrical distribution of the synchronization error. The computer simulation indicates that the proposed algorithm can approach to the CRLB and improve the synchronization precision significantly.
