Abstract:

The wake vortex’s unique electromagnetic scattering characteristics makes the traditional detection methods which is based on fast Fourier transformation (FFT) not applicable. Firstly, the spectrum estimation method based on FFT has low resolution especially when the pulse sequence is short. Secondly, the wake vortex is an frequency domain extended target and its energy is decentralized in the frequency domain, so the single channel or multi channel detection will lose much energy. The autoregressive (AR) power spectrum estimation method is used and a distance detector which can take full advantage of the wake votex’s Doppler information is defined by using the distance between two AR models on the AR manifold, and the effectiveness of the distance detector is verified by comparing with traditional methods with simulated wake vortex data.
