Abstract:

The integrity of wind streaks in shipborne X band radar images is broken due to ship motion, which exactly affects the accuracy of sea wind direction retrieval by wind streaks.Using radar cross section to obtain the wind direction need not correct the ship motion, and the accuracy is not affected by the radar carrier. The harmonic function that is least-squares fitted to the radar cross section as a function of the antenna look direction after processing the radar images,to solve the problem of partial occlusion, then the angle between extraction wind direction and heading is given by the direction that correspond to the peak of the fitted function, and based on the heading, the wind direction can be calculated.Use real radar data to validate the algorithm of sea wind direction, and compare the results with the data obtained from shipborne dogvane. The results show that the wind direction inversed by radar cross section is basically consistent with the reference direction.
