Abstract:

To reduce the resource consumption of cooperative communication systems, a relay selection algorithm based on hybrid decode-amplify-and-forward (HDAF) is proposed. Aiming to optimize the outage probability and the total power, the best relay selection algorithm for HDAF is selected through arranging the equivalent-channel gain in descent order. Employing the proposed algorithm, a reliable communication process can be achieved with a lower outage probability. Moreover, resources will be saved by eliminating redundant relays. Numerical results show that, for the best relay selection algorithm, the outage probability of HDAF is less than amplify-and-forward (AF) and decode-and-forward (DF) when the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is in the range of 10-30 dB. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm collaborated with power allocation is investigated. Compared with the AF and DF strategies, the source node power with the proposed algorithm can be reduced by 1-4 dBm at the same outage probability. Thus, the energy consumption is reduced.
