Abstract:

By considering the combined effects of background radiation, near-field radiation of optical systems, detector noise, noises due to electronic circuits, as well as the non-uniformity of an infrared focal plane array (FPA), a detection performance model for infrared (IR) sensors of interceptor seekers is developed. The model is validated using the reference published parameters of an interceptor seeker. The effect of observing backgrounds on system detection performance is analyzed. The proposed method and model can be used to analyze the detection performance of different interceptor’s IR seekers under background radiation.
