Abstract:

Aiming at the wireless systems employing adaptive modulation and coding (AMC), automatic repeat request (ARQ) and packet fragmentation transmission, a novel ARQ feedback scheme is proposed. The queue behavior induced by the scheme is analyzed with a Markov chain model. Analytical expressions for performance metric such as average packet delay, ARQ feedback amount, packet drop rate and throughput are derived. A constrained bidirectional link optimization problem is solved numerically to maximize the overall system throughput under the specified QoS constraints. Simulation results show that the proposed Markov chain model can accurately predict the performance of tangible systems. The effective throughput achieved by employing the proposed ARQ feedback scheme is larger than that achieved by employing the single-and multi-frame feedback schemes.
