Abstract:

In many practical applications, such as wireless communications, radar and sonar, there are lots of mobile distributed signal sources. And it is very important to track the twodimensional (2-D) direction-of-arrival (DOA) of distributed sources. Aiming at coherently distributed sources, this paper presents a fast algorithm for the 2-D DOA tracking using two parallel uniform linear arrays. The presented algorithm updates the signal subspace of distributed sources by utilizing the approximated power iterations (API) subspace tracking algorithm, and then the new signal subspace is used to estimate the central azimuth and central elevation of distributed sources. The algorithm provides an excellent tracking performance and lower computational complexity, and satisfies a global convergence property. In addition, the algorithm can track multiple distributed sources and does not depend on the specific angular distribution shapes of distributed sources. Simulation results validate the efficiency of the algorithm.
