Abstract:
A novel area-directed thresholdjudgment (ADT) image interpolation mechanism is proposed for solving the area division problem in traditional magnification methods and the complexity of the model and computation in some adaptive image interpolation methods. The proposed algorithm exploits the threshold judgment to classify some serial suitable regions according to the neighbor pixels around the current interpolated pixel. The region that around the interpolated pixel should belong to is decided by threshold combined with the nearest neighbor method and the mode method. According to the different types of interpolated points, the linear interpolation formulas with different weights are designed to achieve adaptive interpolation and improve the image quality. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm gets a better visual effect. Compared with the edge adaptive interpolation algorithm using covariance, the proposed ADT algorithm improves the interpolation speed significantly based on the premise that the image quality reduces tiny, and has a higher increase in peak signal-to-noise ratio by 2.19 dB on average compared with the bilinear algorithm.
