Abstract:

In stepped frequency radar, range profiling via bandwidth synthesis has advantages such as constructing range profiles with large unambiguous extent and low grating lobes. However, when profiling a moving target in ground clutter, the signal to clutter ratio of the range profile is low and its grating lobe level is sensitive to Doppler shifts. Therefore, an improved bandwidth synthesis scheme is proposed. Firstly, a parameter design for Doppler domain anti clutter is studied. Then, a 2 D clutter filter is designed to eliminate clutter. Finally, a motion compensation method derived from the signal properties after interpulse coherent processing is proposed, which suppresses the grating lobe level of the range profile effectively. Results from a field experiment verify the advantages of the proposed scheme.
