Abstract:

The radar cross section(RCS) can provide a support for the design of weapons. Therefore, standard test sites have been established by many countries for the needs of most target RCS measurements. In terms of the non-cooperative weak target in a sea background, it can only rely on actual tests to obtain the target RCS for the problems of multipath interference and weak signal. In response to the current problem, a target RCS estimation method is proposed based on the offshore external calibration and the signal to clutter ratio improvement of the target. Meanwhile, an RCS experiment is designed and carried out on the sea surface. From the analysis of the measured RCS data, the results verify the effectiveness of the new method. Moreover, a qualitative description on the fluctuation characteristics of weak target RCS based on the coherent accumulation gain is given.

Key words: radar cross section (RCS), sea background, weak target, external calibration
